Burning Regulations

In the North Cascade Oregon Department of Forestry District, open burning is the leading cause of wildfires. It is your responsibility to know and follow all backyard, agricultural, recreational, and slash burning regulations.

For backyard, agricultural, and other debris burning, please call the Colton Fire Department Burn Line at 503-824-3111. The line is updated as needed with the most up-to-date burning conditions. Permits are required for any burn pile over 10 feet in diameter. To obtain a burn permit, please contact the Department Chief at 503-824-2545 Monday through Friday during normal business hours.

For forest lands that are not within the protection boundary of the Colton Rural Fire Department, an Oregon Department of Forestry burn permit will be required for open burning. They can be reached at 503-829-2216.
